Rats force primary school to shut

St Andrew's Benn School is closed due to rats

A primary school in Warwickshire has been forced to close after it was infested with rats.

The rodents have eaten through cabling in the ceilings of St Andrew's Benn Church of England School in Rugby.

The school, which has 230 pupils, said they would now be taught at the nearby Rokeby Infant School and the Claremont Children's Centre in the town.

It said the school had already been shut for a week and would remain closed until the New Year at the earliest.

Headteacher Nicki Jones said: "They're still going to have their friends, they're still going to have their teachers, they're just going to be in a different place.

"All children are different, you can't say how any of them are going to take it.

"The way I'm trying to look at it with mine is 'aren't you lucky, it's going to be a big adventure and you're going to go on a bus across town'.

"Try and make it as positive and exciting as you can."
